Coffee brewing techniques have changed dramatically over the years. These days, you have so many different ways to make a cup of coffee.
Do you like it easy? Then place your cup under the coffee maker (also called a fully automatic), press the button, and wait for the coffee to flow into your cup. The predecessor to this machine was a piston machine, also called a semi-automatic.
Short on countertop space? Make your coffee in a flash with a capsule machine. Place the capsule in the machine, press the button, and enjoy! Of course, you can always opt for traditional filter coffee.
How do you make filter coffee?
These days, many people still enjoy a cup of coffee made with a filter coffee machine. Understandably, because filter coffee is aromatic and rich in flavor. But how do you make a good cup of filter coffee? Here are a few steps for brewing the perfect cup of filter coffee:
- Take a paper filter and fold the edges if necessary.
- Wet the filter with a little water.
- Place the filter in the filter holder.
- Spoon the coffee into the filter (If you like your coffee strong, use two teaspoons, totaling about 14 grams per cup. If you like your coffee weaker, use one teaspoon, totaling about 7 grams of ground coffee per cup).
- Pour the correct amount of water (the number of cups) into the filter coffee maker.
- Turn the device on and let it do its work.
- Stir the coffee.
- Don't leave the coffee on the warming plate for too long, otherwise your coffee will become bitter.
Making coffee with a piston machine
True coffee lovers make coffee with a piston machine. The inventor of the piston espresso machine, Achille Gaggia, established the settings for the best coffee in 1947. Only the amount of ground coffee, initially 7 grams per cup, has been adjusted upwards. The other settings have remained unchanged for seventy years:
- Start the coffee machine and wait until it reaches the correct temperature. The ideal temperature is between 88°C and 96°C.
- To make an espresso, use 8 to 10 grams of ground coffee (you can choose a coarse or very fine grind).
- Take the piston of the coffee machine and hold it just below the outlet of the coffee grinder,
- Press the coffee into the plunger. Use the flat of your hand to brush away any remaining grounds.
- Place the piston back into the appliance.
- Set the extraction time between 20 and 30 seconds.
- The pressure should be 9 bar.
- Press the desired coffee button and enjoy!
