Is koffie drinken gezond?

Is drinking coffee healthy?

Coffee is more than just black water. It's prized for its flavor and aroma and contains, among other things, the stimulant caffeine. Besides caffeine, coffee contains several minerals and antioxidants such as potassium, magnesium, manganese, polyphenols, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin B3, pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), niacin, dietary fiber, and iron. What is the impact of all these minerals and substances on your health? If science is to be believed, coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing serious illnesses. We've listed these "health benefits" of coffee for you.

1. Coffee reduces the risk of Alzheimer's

Research shows that drinking coffee can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease (memory loss) later in life. Caffeine can reduce inflammation and prevent the breakdown of brain cells. People who drink a lot of coffee are said to have a 65% lower risk of developing Alzheimer's. There's even speculation that coffee can cure Alzheimer's, but no scientific evidence has yet been found.

Coffee doesn't just reduce your risk of memory loss; it can even enhance your memory! Some memories are retained more effectively by coffee, even 24 hours after drinking a cup!

2. Coffee reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease

Drinking a cup of coffee every day reduces your risk of developing Parkinson's disease. This is due to the high caffeine content of coffee. The more coffee you drink, the lower your risk of Parkinson's will become. This effect has not been demonstrated in people who drink decaffeinated coffee, which supports the influence of caffeine on Parkinson's disease.

3. Coffee offers protection against cancer

Research shows that coffee can have an inhibitory effect on several forms of cancer. For example, four cups of coffee a day can reduce the risk of liver cancer diagnosis and the formation of gallstones. Coffee drinkers have a 40% lower risk of liver cancer. They also have a lower risk of developing cirrhosis, which reduces the risk of various diseases that affect the liver.

It can also reduce the risk of bladder cancer, colon cancer (a study of 489,706 people found that people who drink 4 to 5 cups of coffee a day have a 15% lower risk of colon cancer), skin cancer, and cervical cancer. This is because coffee lowers insulin levels in your body, which slows the growth of tumors and other growths.

4. Coffee protects against diabetes

People who drink four cups of coffee a day have a lower risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus than those who rarely or never drink coffee. Several studies have been conducted on this topic, with one study even showing a 67% reduction in the risk of diabetes due to coffee consumption. Whether or not the coffee contains caffeine is irrelevant. Research shows that the antioxidant chlorogenic acid in coffee can slow the absorption of sugar (glucose) in the intestines. As a result, the body produces less of the hormone insulin, which counteracts high blood glucose levels.

Research also shows that coffee can actually disrupt blood glucose levels in some people who already had diabetes. Therefore, always ask your dietitian for advice about drinking coffee.

5. Coffee reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease

Drinking coffee doesn't increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, as is often thought. In fact, it can actually reduce this risk! Drinking an average of three cups of coffee a day lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease compared to not drinking coffee at all.

6. Caffeine stimulates fat burning

Did you know that caffeine is one of the few natural substances that can burn fat? Caffeine stimulates metabolism. In overweight people, caffeine can increase fat burning by 10%, and in lean people, by as much as 29%. These effects can diminish as you drink more and more coffee.

7. Coffee makes you alert

Caffeine stimulates your central nervous system, which increases your reaction time. This can make you more alert and focused, improve your logical reasoning, and reduce memory loss. This is also evident from a Kaldi study, in which 53% of respondents between the ages of 50 and 60, and even 100% of respondents under 20, indicated that a cup of coffee made them more productive. Coffee also appears to have a positive effect on your perceived sense of happiness.

8. Coffee increases energy levels

A cup of coffee can make you feel less tired. This is because the caffeine in coffee blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. This stimulates your brain and makes you feel more energetic.

9. Live longer through coffee

Generally speaking, people who drink coffee live longer than those who don't. This has nothing to do with the caffeine content of the coffee. So keep drinking coffee !
