Coffee country Colombia

Coffee was first introduced to Colombia in 1723 by the Jesuits, but coffee production didn't become significant until the late 19th century. Nearly 500,000 (small) farms produce coffee here. In 1960, an advertising agency created the character Juan Valdez as the emblem of the Café de Colombia quality label. The poor coffee farmer with his donkey was romanticized and symbolized craftsmanship and quality.

The Andes offer many areas with microclimates suitable for coffee cultivation, but Colombia's topography makes large-scale cultivation impossible. Therefore, the focus is on quality production. Only Arabica varieties are grown there.

Colombian coffee offers a huge range of flavors, from heavier, chocolatey coffees to sweeter, fruitier ones. There's a broad spectrum of flavors across the regions.
