Lisa and Thom's Kaldi store is located in the center of bustling Deventer. They look forward to welcoming you to their store to advise you on coffee, tea, and everything related to it! The start of the Kaldi business
Before Thom and Lisa started their own business, they had already been working at Kaldi for some time. At the age of 26, they took the step to become Kaldi franchisees themselves. Lisa says:
"I have been working at Kaldi since April/May 2014, initially as a Saturday assistant. When I met Thom in May 2015, he also started working at Kaldi within a year. At the time, we were both studying subjects we didn't like, me communication and Thom ICT. Gradually, we started working more and more and dropped out of our studies. When the business was offered to us for sale, we realized that we had perhaps been working towards this without even knowing it! It was never our intention to become entrepreneurs. It all happened very quickly because within a month we had signed a franchise agreement and taken over two branches. That was on April 1, 2019. During the coronavirus pandemic, we decided to continue with one branch."
Strong together
With two people in the company, Kaldi Deventer is at home in practically every market. They draw their strength from combining each other's strengths. Thom is the technical man and Lisa is the social hostess. A perfect combination that ensures customers always leave the store well-informed and feeling good. But we mustn't forget Martijn. He is the helpful right-hand man who strengthens the team. Lisa and Thom have now been running Kaldi Deventer successfully for three years and are strengthening the team with more staff. Lisa: “This gives us peace of mind and allows us to maintain both our relationship and our business.”
