Tea Abbreviations
Sometimes, an abbreviation appears after the name of loose tea. To denote the quality of tea, classes have been devised for the different leaves, indicated by a letter. When plucking tea leaves, the higher the leaves on the plant, the better the quality. The very best quality is obtained when only the two top leaves and the leaf bud are plucked. Below you will find a useful overview of all tea abbreviations.
| Abbreviation | Meaning | Explanation |
| P | Pekoe | Shorter and coarser leaves than OP |
| OP | Orange Pekoe | Long, pointed leaves that are larger than FOP and were harvested when the top leaves had just opened |
| FOP | Flowery Orange Pekoe | Tea made from the leaf bud and the two top leaves of each shoot. Fine, tender, young leaves, rolled with the right amount of tips, the fine ends of the buds, which ensure quality. |
